Sandhurst Farm Forge B&B
----“Think Local” There is so much on our doorstep----
Our stable block Annexe B&B is “Open” all year round, with only a short closure during the Christmas period, and if we can remember to close out the online booking diary we may sneak a week in September!
There are two fully heated shower en-suite rooms, with all the facilities that you would expect from a four star accommodation. A locally sourced cooked breakfast is served for you in the adjoining kitchen/breakfast room.Just check our availability/or book a room .We would love to welcome you.
We are truly a rural Bed and Breakfast, set in the middle of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, surrounded by acres of coppice woodland and a maze of walks throughout the Syndale Valley presenting a fantastic array of colour whatever the season.
Over the Autumn and Winter months, the B&B and the Forge are still busy, but September is probably the only time we can take a break, where someone else cooks our breakfasts!!For the last few years we have indulged in a week’s stone carving course at the famous Yorkshire Sculpture Park in West Yorkshire. Not exactly local but we do get chance to learn a new skill to add to our mixed media experience. Any way Charlies’ ancestors were Stonemasons before they were Blacksmiths!!
By the end of September we are back on local ground, Charlie has the Forge lit and ready for his new projects. The B&B is back in full swing, we are looking at our advertising /exhibitions for the following year. The artists among us are preparing for East Kent Artist Open Houses -Faversham Trail in October, Pots in the Kent Potters Association Open Exhibition, Pots and metal work in Creek Creative Gallery.
In November we planted 350 mixed native hedging plants as part of our exterior landscaping plans. All have now taken well and managed not to be eaten by rabbits. Our driveway fencing has been renewed, our studio roof has been replaced after a visit from Storm Doris!! Now just needs the building to be re-painted again.
We have been fortunate to have had a reasonable winter but--------
as we approached May 2017, we seem to have taken a dip in temperatures, and the ground is really in need of rain, especially as we are planning to try to grow more veg this year and revamp the raspberry patch to keep us stocked up with homemade jam for breakfasts. As a rural business Sandhurst Farm Forge and B&B relies very much on “things local” and we are fortunate to be situated on the outskirts of two thriving villages both different, but both with a strong community spirit.
Our Guests often chose from either The George Inn Newnham or The Chequers Doddington for good Food and drink. Both pubs hold various musical and special gourmet events throughout the year.
Doddington and Newnham Village Halls also host various events throughout the year such as short plays, quiz nights ,exercise and dancing classes and much more, helping to support the upkeep of the Halls.
Doddington Village boasts a garage and petrol station, where you can also pay your Dartford Crossing fee.
S.W Doughty is our local slaughter house and butcher –this is where guests breakfast Sausages and bacon and eggs come from, as well as very tasty pasties and scotch eggs for picnics!!
Doddington Place Gardens is now Open for the Season, and also hosts the Hawking Centre.
